Opening Ceremony of the "Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition of 18th Artist-in-Residence Dai Weizhong"
8月23日下午，“第十八期驻校艺术家戴卫中书画展”在香港中文大学（深圳）TC101展览馆隆重开幕。香港中文大学（深圳）校长徐扬生教授致开幕词，他表示：“这些作品中，山水与人物相协，展现了人与自然诙谐相映的关系。”一如艺术家戴卫中先生的自述：“沉浸其中，你会感到唐宋文化的繁荣、魏晋风度的深刻渊源乃至先秦诸子的思想光辉。”当作品融入创作者的不懈思索，终能达到天人合一的中庸境界。
On August 23, the opening ceremony of the "Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition of the 18th Artist-in-Residence Dai Weizhong" was held at TC101 Exhibition Hall at CUHK(SZ). In his opening speech, President Yangsheng Xu remarked that the paintings highlight a harmonious relationship between man and nature. His feelings well corresponded with the artist’s self-expression that “through these paintings, one can come face to face with the prosperity of Tang and Song dynasties, the profundity of the life ideology of Wei-Jin intellectuals, and the spiritual splendor of Pre-Qin philosophers.” When the artist’s unceasing exploration and modification translates itself into his works, the ideal state of Zhongyong is arrived.
出席开幕活动的嘉宾还包括香港中文大学（深圳）人文社科学院院长范息涛教授、大学艺术中心主任及行政事务处处长黄顺真女士、浙江省桐乡市副市长徐建东先生、深圳市文化艺术界领导等。香港中文大学（深圳）校长徐扬生教授在开幕词，诚挚表达了对艺术家戴卫中先生不远千里、作客校园的热烈欢迎，及培养港中大（深圳）学子人文素养、审美情操的美好愿景。
Apart from President Xu, Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences Prof. Fan Xitao, Director of the University Art Centre Ms. Dorothy Wong, Deputy Major of Tongxiang, Zhejiang Province Mr. Xu Jiandong, and guests from Shenzhen’s art and culture domain attended the ceremony. While extending a warm welcome to Mr. Dai who came from afar, President Xu also expressed fond wishes for CUHK-Shenzheners to thrive in humanistic qualities and aesthetic tastes.

艺术家戴卫中先生以继承优良的艺术传统为己任，以将中华艺术的特有风范融入世界艺术之林为使命，在追求中国艺术之美的道路上不断探索。正如展览前言所表，热爱是最好的老师，传承是开拓的基石。
Mr. Dai sees it as his mission to carry on the Chinese artistic tradition, to channel its uniqueness to the world of art at large, in the meantime, to further explore the aesthetics of Chinese art. As the preface to the exhibition illustrates, passion remains the best mentor, and inheritance lays the ground for innovation.

讲座：深入中国传统绘画
Lecture: In-depth Learning of Traditional Chinese Painting
9月2日晚，戴卫中先生为同学们带来了干货满满的国画讲座。戴先生从石器时代画在陶器上的狩猎图画讲起，指出人类还不曾创作书与画时，首先创造了象形的符号，这些符号是书与画共同的祖先。
On September 2nd, Mr. Dai inspired CUHK-Shenzhen students with an informative talk on traditional Chinese painting. Starting with Stone Age pottery paintings dealing with hunting scenes, he pointed the audience’s attention to the fact that the creation of graphic symbols came into existence before the creation of letters and paintings. These symbols establish the common ground from which letters and paintings originated.
通过自北魏壁画至唐代的文人画，再到宋元的山水画与花鸟画，戴先生用简单而精炼的话语，概括了中国画从写实到写意的发展，并深度解析了古代画家们运用不同的作画手法以表达丰富的情感与心绪。
From the murals of Northern Wei Dynasty to the paintings by Tang literati, and to the landscape paintings and bird-and-flower paintings of Song and Yuan Dynasties, Mr. Dai outlined the development of Chinese painting from realism to freehand brush work, namely, the deconstruction of forms. He also gave an in-depth analysis of different painting techniques that ancient artists used to express their thoughts and moods.

在两场“导赏与分享”中，戴先生在展览现场为大家介绍与解析个人创作的国画作品，带领同学们感知水墨肆意的气势与文人雅士的情怀。
During the two artist-led exhibition tours and sharing sessions, Mr. Dai introduced his works, analyzed his employment of ink and water, and helped students visualize the ideologies of ancient intellectuals.

中国画工作坊
Chinese Painting Workshop
9月7日，戴卫中先生为师生们带来了一场生动的中国画工作坊，参与者们不仅学习了国画的特点与画法，还亲手体验画出了自己的写意画。
On September 7th, Mr. Dai gave a workshop on the characteristics and techniques of Chinese painting. By the end of the workshop, participants created their own freehand brush work under Mr. Dai’s guidance.
▷ 戴卫中先生现场示范如何握笔与创作，寥寥几笔，一提一按，梅、兰、竹、菊的淡雅气韵便跃然纸上。
▷Mr. Dai demonstrated how to hold the brush. With a few strokes, the simple elegance of cherry blossom, orchid, bamboo, and chrysanthemum appeared vividly onto the paper.
参与工作坊的同学们专心致志地临摹，戴先生悉心指导大家创作，并不断鼓励大家：“大胆一点”、“多一点耐心与恒心”，在戴先生的引导下，大家共同学习，深刻领略国画学习带来的乐趣。
Participants were deeply absorbed in artistic creation. Under Mr. Dai’s encouragement to be “bolder”, to put in “more patience and perseverance”, they each got to experience the pure joy inherent in learning Chinese painting.

戴卫中．字六经，号香山学人，乌镇东栅人。上世纪八十年代从事丝织地毯、挂毯设计，改编设计的大型《百马图》等是挂毯精品中的孤品。1992年至1998年兼任浙江美术学院（现中国美术学院）画廊画师。2000年前后仼香港福慧基金会上海处特约画师，著、绘有《智者大师画传》，《鉴真大师画传》。2006年起担纲制作乌镇西栅景区全部大型公共壁画（包括游客服务中心金铂画，第一、二次世界互联网大会主场馆枕水大酒店仿青花瓷画，永久互联网场馆接待中心大幅国画）。现为日本·中国书画院常务理事与晋鸥艺术学院副院长。
Dai Weizhong, whose courtesy name is Liu Jing, and self-titled as Xiangshan Scholar, was born in Dongzha, Wuzhen. In the 1980's, Dai engaged in professional silk carpet and tapestry design, among which adapted design "A Hundred Horses" became one of the world's best pieces of tapestry. Dai doubled as a gallery painter of Zhejiang Academy of Art (now renamed The China Academy of Art) from 1992 to 1998 and as a guest painter of the Shanghai office of Hong Kong Fu Hui Foundation around 2002, authoring and depicting the Biographical Paintings of "Portrait of the Wise Master", and "Portrait of the Master Jianzhen". Since 2006, Dai has independently produced all the large-scale external murals for Wuzhen Xishan Scenic Spot (including the gold leaf painting of the tourist service centre, the blue-and-white porcelain imitation painting of Waterside Resort as the main hall for the first and second World Internet Conference, and the only large-scale Chinese painting for the reception centre of the Internet Conference Venue). Now he is the executive director of Japan · Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Academy and the vice president of Jinou Art Academy.

Artist-in-Residence Programme

为营造大学艺术氛围，培养同学审美情操，从2016年开始，大学推出驻校艺术家项目，定期从全球各地及各艺术领域遴选邀请国际化水准的专业艺术家进驻校园，从事创作并与同学交流。
驻校艺术家创作周期分为两种：短期5-10天，长期1-2个月。驻校期间，艺术家会与同学们共同创作，或以讲座、工作坊的形式指导学生创作与审美。艺术家的创造也会结合校园周边资源，为校园的发展提供创新的尝试。
In 2016, the University initiated the Artist-in-Residence Programme to create an artistic atmosphere on campus and to elevate student's aesthetic taste. We regularly invite top artists from various fields to reside on campus, create artworks and hold workshops with students.
The programme may last 5-10 days or 1-2 months. Artists will work with or guide students to create or appreciate artworks through workshop or lectures. Artists will also take into account resources available off campus to contribute towards our development.
